Come celebrate Earth Day with us!

Sustainable Mason’s Earth Day EcoFest & LLC Block Party is an outdoor sustainability festival. It will be held on Earth Day, April 22nd, from 11:00am-2:00pm on the lawn behind the MIX@Fenwick Library (it is the flat lawn between the MIX and Sandbridge Hall). [Rain backup location = inside the MIX@Fenwick, same day/ time].

    Interactive Tabling:

This open air/ outdoor festival is a collaboration between the Office of Sustainability, Mason LLCs, and Mason Dining, and will feature many Mason and community partners. Stop by to learn what Sustainable Mason can offer you including...  Smithsonian at Mason courses, sustainable study abroad or trips opportunities (#Peru #Caribbean?! etc), funding and projects through the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and PGF, Living Learning Communities, and 'green' student groups... also check out what other students are up to (#SustainabilityProjects). Also take part in activities like creating seed pods or learning how to compost!

    Sustainable Market:

There will be mini-Farmer’s Market & sustainability product market (!!), as well as GOGA's Annual Seedling Sale – so be sure to bring a few bucks to support 'green' products like Mason's very own honey, or goat milk soap, and get your plants!

    Art/ DE-Stress:

We will also have places for folks to create their own art projects ("paint" your own FREE reusable Starbucks cup, or color in an adult coloring book on the lawn), draw inspiration from some of Mason's sculpture and upcycling artists work around you!

    Donation Boxes

We will have donation boxes – have any extra clothes you're not taking with you? Bring your clean, lightly used clothes and shoes or even a bike you want to donate (instead of leaving it behind at Move Out)!

And of course it wouldn't be a Mason event without some FREE giveaways, as well as plenty of FREE food and FREE smoothies as well (while supplies last!)

Learn about and gain hands-on experience with grafting on fruit trees! Grafting is a way of doing surgery with plants, by adding branches of a certain fruit variety to existing trees. Join the Office of Sustainability staff to graft apple scions, or branches, to the crab apple trees in the Innovation Food Forest. We are turning the inedible, decorative crab apples trees into edible apple trees that will have multiple apple varieties on one tree!

The university community is invited to help Mason reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills as a result of the academic year move-out process by volunteering for the 12th Anniversary of Patriot Pack Out! This year, donations will go to the Mason Food Pantry and other local non-profits.

We are seeking volunteer teams comprised of 5 members of students, staff, and/or faculty. Teams will collect goods from donation sites and place them curbside for collection by Mason Recycling and Waste Management.

Two-hour collection routes begin at 9 a.m. and noon, during weekdays and staff may use up to two hours of volunteer service hours. Help is needed from May 13th – 20th.

Will post the sign-up for that event soon.
