PGF Committee

The fund is managed by a committee of five students, two faculty, and two staff members. The committee is responsible for processing and approving applications, marketing the PGF, and giving individual attention to each project to support its success.

  • Be in good academic standing
  • Provide a resume
  • Include a cover letter detailing their interest in this opportunity and why their perspective would be a valuable addition to the committee.
  • Provide the contact information of a Mason faculty or staff member who can serve as a reference along with a short description of how they have worked with that individual.

Student Committee Members are expected to meet the following criteria:  

  1. Be a full or part-time undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at George Mason University (any campus);  
  2. Be willing and able to commit to a one-year term (Fall-Spring); 
  3. Be willing and able to commit up to 2 hours a week (on average – some weeks there will be no time requirements, and other weeks may require 4-5 hours based on the time of year) of administrative work and meeting attendance; 
  4. Be able to attend at least 2 in-person meetings per semester on the Fairfax campus; 
  5. Have a minimum GPA of 2.5

Committee Member Responsibilities: 

  • The Committee is responsible for processing and approving applications, marketing the PGF, and giving individual attention to each project to support its success. 
  • Committee members should have the availability and authority to spend whatever time is needed to make decisions on project funding. 
  • Committee members are expected to attend a meeting around every month-and-a-half, totaling a minimum of 4 meetings a year. However, it is possible that up to 6 or 7 meetings will occur throughout the school year. Committee members are required to miss no more than 50% of the meetings a year. 
  • Committee members are expected to provide specific thoughts and feedback on each project’s merits (or lack thereof), which may take several hours in one week, depending on the volume of applications.
  • Student committee members are expected to serve as project supporters for people who have been awarded PGF funds by ensuring all questions are answered and that their spending and reporting responsibilities are met in a timely fashion. They are also expected to notify the Co-Chairs if any issues should arise with the projects that they are assisting.  
  • Committee members are expected to disclose any possible conflict of interest during the decision-making process.
