Our vision for the future of George Mason includes the following key components:

  • All students have the opportunity to participate in on-campus experiential and service-learning hours that promote sustainability, career-readiness, and entrepreneurship.
  • All students learn about sustainability principles in their coursework and are encouraged to create solutions.
  • Every student, faculty, and staff member has the opportunity to actively participate in advancing campus sustainability supported by impactful green funds.
  • Campuses and sites are energy efficient, resilient, and enhance connections to nature.
  • Buildings are high-performance, employing energy and cost efficiency, as well as low-impact standards, in their design, construction, and operations.
  • Grounds are managed in a sustainable manner to support operational best practice, experiential learning, and research opportunities.
  • Campuses are a model for alternative transportation, including shuttles, walking, and biking.
  • Healthy, plant-based, certified, and local food options are available to all on-campus diners - including from our campus greenhouse.
  • Purchasing is resource responsible, focused on supplier sustainability, circularity, and cost efficiency.
  • Campuses and sites are zero waste, diverting the majority of our total waste away from incineration.
